Description
Baal is a rare airborne vermin built around a bright core inside a set of warped rings. The core is the part that takes the hit. The rings only make it harder to track in motion.
The rings are placed at each of the 32 edges of a tesseract centered on the core, performing a simple rotation in the XW plane, stereographically projected into the 3D game world. The rings stretch taller and thinner the further from the core they are as they animate.
Once active, it drifts fast and fires from its core every 0.25 seconds. Each shot reaches about 24 blocks and ends in a 3-block energy burst that peaks at 7 damage. These blasts break terrain and throw targets back, but they are only fired while you or terrain is in range below it. Note that Baal tears straight through walls as it moves — it isn't hindered by obstacles.
Baal comes from the world's rare encounter pool. Normal biome tables do not use it. A direct summon uses a baal capsule. It is a hard kill even with ranged gear. A hate wand can reach it, but Baal is fast enough that the chase often outruns the wand's distance, so the fight usually turns into repeated gap-closing with a hook, lest it fly out of range and despawn.
Baal always drops a white covenant (formerly a bolus) and a vermin vigil block. Constructing an arena will not help with combat — keep your aim on the core (which is hard to see, so aim for where it looks like it is going rather than where the rings are centered), stay mobile, and expect the whole area to get torn apart before the fight ends.
