In a divine world

A divine world has no music or ambience of its own.

You choose the music on the waveforms tab, the third page of the inventory. Back and next change the song. Play always starts it from the beginning.

The five orbs beside the speaker follow the music as it plays: the top one the deepest sounds, the bottom one the highest. The louder its part of the music, the bigger an orb grows and the faster it turns. They move to any music that plays, not only the tab's own song.

The song keeps playing wherever you go. The world remembers it, and if it was on, starts it again after each load or portal trip. A new divine world starts on #1, Abandoned World.

Only a frequency gate nearby, the faith wand curse, a Leviathan and portal travel play over it.

How music works

Music and ambience

Only one song plays at a time.

Ambience is a quieter sound under the music: birds, rain, wind, the hum of a room. It never replaces the music.

When the music changes, the old song fades out over about 5 seconds.

When a new song starts

Each wandering song plays for 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the song. Then the game picks the next one.

It also picks one when you load a world, respawn or enter another dimension, and after every story scene.

Changing biome does not change the song. Neither does dawn or dusk.

How the song is picked

The pick leans toward songs that suit where you were in the last 20 seconds or so, but it is mostly chance.

It can pick the song that is already playing. Then that song just carries on.

Day and night

A game day is 24 minutes: about 11 of day and 13 of night.

Some wandering songs are day-only or night-only. The game checks the time only when it picks, so a day song picked just before dusk plays on into the night.

Underground is not night. Only wandering music cares about the time.

Day, about 11 min Night, about 13 min
Moss
Moss is day-only, picked here 2 minutes before dusk. It plays on 3:00 into the night.

Silence

Where there is ambience, 3 picks in 10 are silence: 4:06 of ambience alone.

Where there is no ambience, silence is never picked. A silence always runs the full 4:06, even if you change biome.

  5. Yolk
  6. Silence
  7. Silence
  8. Silence
  9. Fruit Fest
  10. Lime
3 of these 10 picks were silence.

When other music takes over

When stronger music starts, the song under it keeps running without sound.

When the stronger music stops, that song fades back in where it got to. Wandering picks keep happening underneath.
